The James A Boyd Foundation was created to remove the financial and systemic barriers that prevent fathers—particularly Black fathers—from being present and purposeful in their children's lives.

Through grants, advocacy, education, and representation, we help fathers navigate complex legal challenges.
Maintain meaningful relationships with their children
We provide resources and support to ensure fathers can be present in their children's lives.

About Joanna G. Boyd
Ms. Boyd has worked through cases dealing with divorce, alimony, child custody, child support, equitable division of assets, legitimations, paternity, modification, contempt, and family violence. Ms. Boyd has also worked with multiple government agencies, including, but not limited to Fulton County Pretrial Services, has volunteered for multiple non-profit organizations, and has experience in public speaking. She has mediation training as approved by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and has proven herself to be prepared for negotiations or courtroom appearances.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Joanna attended Georgia State University where she studied the Legal Issues Track in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She then attended Atlanta John Marshall Law School where she became an active member of the Student Bar Association (SBA), Black Law Student Association (BLSA), Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL), Criminal Law Society, and Family Law Society. Ms. Boyd graduated in the top sector of her class at both Georgia State University and Atlanta John Marshall before taking and passing the Georgia Bar Exam.

Joanna G. Boyd, Esq. is an accomplished Georgia family law attorney recognized for her fierce advocacy on behalf of fathers and families. As the founder of J.G. Boyd Law, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that children have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with both parents. Her mission is clear: to give fathers a fair voice in the courtroom and to challenge the systemic biases that often work against them.
Attorney Boyd coined the phrase “Let Him See That Child”—a movement that has grown into both a rallying cry and a source of hope for fathers navigating custody and visitation battles. Beyond the courtroom, she extends her impact as a podcast host, social media influencer, and public speaker, empowering parents and driving conversations around fairness in family law.
Her excellence in advocacy has been widely recognized. Joanna has been honored as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers (2021–2022), named among the Top 10 Under 40 Family Law Attorneys in Georgia (2020–2022), and included in Marquis Who’s Who. She has also been named an Elite Lawyer (since 2023), a recipient of the MyLegalWin Top 10 Family Law Attorney badge, a Lawyer of Distinction, and a My Legal Win Distinguished Attorney. In 2025, she was recognized as one of the nation’s Top 30 Matrimonial & Family Law Trial Lawyers.
Her thought leadership and story have been featured in national and regional publications including CEO Weekly (August 2025), Voyage ATL, ShoutOut Atlanta, and Canvas Rebel, in addition to authoring multiple family law blog posts that provide guidance and insight for parents navigating legal challenges.
To expand her impact beyond her practice, Joanna is launching the James A. Boyd Foundation, a charitable nonprofit named in honor of her late father. The foundation is dedicated to reconnecting fathers with their children by offering financial assistance, legal resources, and emotional support to men navigating the family law system.
A proud Atlanta native, Joanna earned her degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Legal Issues and Sociology from Georgia State University before completing her Juris Doctor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, where she was active in the Student Bar Association (SBA), Black Law Student Association (BLSA), Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL), Criminal Law Society, and Family Law Society.
Today, Joanna continues to be a bold voice for fathers’ rights, a trusted legal advocate, and a passionate community leader committed to reshaping the landscape of family law in Georgia and beyond.
